Championship season has begun and USTA Middle States had a stellar showing in week one.
The men’s team representing Middle States from Sea Colony Tennis Center in Delaware took home top honors in the 5.5 division, claiming the national title over USTA Nor Cal in the finals. The event was held in Las Vegas, Nev.
The team, captained by Dave Marshall, Tennis Director, Sea Colony Tennis Center, finished 3-0 in its flight before advancing to the championship bracket. The men defeated teams from USTA Intermountain, USTA Pacific Northwest, and USTA Southwest. They boasted an individual match record of 7-2.
In the championship bracket, USTA Middle States first defeated USTA Midwest 2-1 before downing USTA Nor Cal 2-1.
The team dedicated their tremendous victory to Sea Colony Tennis Pro Harry Hipps who is battling lung cancer. The team held signs honoring Hipps, who has been with Sea Colony since 1989, in the championship photo.
The championship marks the third-in-a-row for team captain Marshall. His team won the 5.0 division in 2006 and the Open Invitational in 2007.
